Man on Fire

Question: Is this a true story? The ending with text "John W. Creasy" and lifetime dates makes it seem like a true story.

Answer: Daniel "La Voz" Sanchez was based off the kidnapper Daniel Arizmendi López and Aurelio Sanchez was based off his bother Aurelio Arizmendi López, so some of it maybe true but not a lot.

Answer: No, the movie was based on a fiction book. The book takes place in Italy, and the kidnapping ring is run by the mafia.

Answer: The movie was completely lifted from a much better 1987 version of the same story.

Answer: To cleanse his bullet wounds and to try and keep in shape.

Also, felt closer to Pita through her swimming.

Answer: It was meant to recuperate damaged muscles after being shot at by kidnappers.

Chosen answer: Creasy swimming in the pool can be considered as as a way to be close to Pita. His blood in the water could also be interpreted as him and Pita becoming one.

Answer: The reason he was swimming in the pool is because he had open bullet hole wounds to his body, the chlorine and bleach in a swimming pool kill bacteria thus helping him from not dying of gangrene before he has a chance to get his revenge. He knew from the first bullet to his body he was not going to make it out alive so he did what he had to do to get as far as he possibly could. He believed she was dead, he had nothing to live for, he was killing as many as he could before he fell off the wagon.

Question: Why does Creasy almost kill himself in the beginning of the movie? How does Creasy die at the end of the movie?

Answer: Creasy was a contract assassin for the CIA. His downfall was his drinking because it affected his reaction time and so forth. He had a lot of bad memories he was trying to live with. He considered this bodyguard assignment to be a blow off assignment. This and his bad memories combined with his drinking problem, made him severely depressed. This is why he considered killing himself. At the end of the movie, you see Creasy being taken away in a car. His gunshot wound from the "Voice's" brother, along with his prior gunshot wounds that were never properly treated, had finally gotten the best of him. He was bleeding the whole last half of the movie because he never fully recovered from the gunshot wounds. So, to answer the question of why he died, he bled to death.

Answer: He wanted to kill himself because of his past. Hence- "will God ever forgive us for what we have done?" His friend answered "no"

Answer: Because he knew he was dying, his job was done, and he could do no more.

Answer: His life for her life is why he surrendered - he knew he was dying and that was the only way to make the child safe again and reunite her with her mum.

Yeah but he had the voice brother and wife to exchange with Pita. So why he made a deal with the voice that wouldn't kill the voice but him even though he had the upper hand.

Answer: Some would say he gave his life for a life. To be redeemed in the afterlife for killing so many people in the CIA.

Answer: He held the wife, brother, and children of 'the voice' at gunpoint. He was certainly was in a good bargaining position to trade them for the girl without having to give up his own life. I understand he was seriously wounded but he could have attempted that trade and made his way to the ER.

Answer: Yeah but when "The Voice" and Creasy were speaking over the phone they made the life for a life deal. Give back Pita for "The Voices" brother. So it still makes me wonder why Creasy still went with them in the end and died.

Question: If Jorge Gonzales and other members of La Hermandad participated in the kidnapping, why does the La Hermandad president, Victor Fuentes, steal the ransom?

Answer: La Hermandad wasn't entirely involved in the kidnapping. There were only a few members that were involved with "the voice". Jorge and his people stole the ransom because they are corrupt police and they wanted the ransom and split it among themselves.

I was confused about this as well. So then "the voice" was not.a member of La Hermandad?

Question: Does anyone know, or have any idea, what the policeman was referring to when the reporter asked for the bank information and he replied, "On one condition"?

Answer: The condition was that any serious leads that could lead to 'the voice's' location be kept confidential giving him the 1st chance to make the arrest, i.e., kill The Voice 1st.

Answer: The most likely condition is that it was for absolute assurance that "The Voice's" picture would be published, which she seemed to protest, and was even later harshly threatened to stop, but she did anyway. And / or to divulge Crecy's intentions of acting on the information once provided, furthering their investigation, which is also supported by their expectation of his arrival at the Barrio, and their delay in action until such time. They not only were not surprised of his arrival, or actions, they were waiting for it.

Answer: She had to divulge Crecy's phone number so that they can trace him. Or the condition is that she has sex with him. Opinion is divided.

It couldn't be so she would have sex with him since while he was saying on "one condition" she was putting her clothes back on from where they had just finished having sex.

Answer: Yes, but the sex was so great, why not relive the experience?

Question: What are the scars on John Creasy's hand from, when the laser is on his hand at the end? When he is standing on the bridge with his hand on his chest the scars look the same size as a bullet?

Answer: Creasy was a POW. A general was questioning him while captured. Cigars were put out on his hand as a means of torture.

Answer: John Creasy = JC = Jesus Christ (hands scarred like the hands of Jesus).

Answer: Those scars are real scars on Denzel's hands. you can see them in many of his films.

No they aren't.

Question: What is the name of the music that is playing after Fuentes's car explodes, because of the C-4 that Creasy planted?

aezakmi

Chosen answer: Lisa Gerrard - Man on fire End Theme or Harry Gregson-Williams - Creasy Dies.

Answer: Tenor aria from Opera turandot.

Question: Did Creasy really shove C-4 up Fuentes' arse, or did he just attach it to the gas tank of the car?

Answer: If the c4 enema were true, the explosion would have been blood and guts and smaller than the fireball depicted. Maybe the filmmaker thought that too realistic and gave the viewer the explosion that is more palatable.

Answer: Creasy explained to Fuentes that he used a suppository dispenser popular with drug mules to load the C-4 into Fuentes. And Fuentes had to have known what happened to his corrupt policia federale in the car and what happened at the rave, so he knew for certain that Creasy was authentic. Fuentes knew that his life was in jeopardy. As such, he tried to talk his way out - "Hey, take it easy", "I'm sorry about the girl", "I'm a professional." He tried to threaten his way out - "I'm the Presidente of La Hermandad." Fuentes was trying to buy time, to talk his way out of his impending enema. He needed enough time for Creasy to free him and for him to extract the C-4. And Creasy knew that, which is why he replied, "I wish you had more time."

Question: What type of car is the brown muscle car that Creasy drives at the end?

Answer: The brown car with the chrome split grille is a 1972 Dodge Charger.

Chosen answer: The name of the club is Cafe Opera.

Michael Albert

Question: Why did they put "A special thanks to Mexico City: A very special place" in the credits? Was that supposed to be a joke? The movie didn't portray it as very special.

MikeH

Answer: This was likely meant as an appreciation to the city and its people for their support and assistance during the film's production, and was not a jokey reference to how Mexico City was portrayed in the movie. It's typical for movies to express gratitude to a city, state, the citizens, etc. for their cooperation.

raywest

Answer: It could also be sarcasm cause I read that the crew was robbed at gunpoint several times during filming.

Question: What was the CD he was playing while Creasy was attempting to kill himself?

Answer: Blue Bayou by Linda Ronstadt.

Answer: Blue Bayou.

Question: What is the name of the necklace that Lupita gave Creasy? Some kind of angel like guadeloupe or something?

Answer: Saint Jude - Guardian of Lost Causes.

Answer: It's the Judas Apostle. The guardian of the hopeless.

Continuity mistake: When Creasy is cutting off the fingers of Jorge Gonzales, the sunglasses resting on Gonzales's nose constantly changes from one shot to the next. In some they're halfway down his nose so you can see his eyes, in others they're pushed all the way up. (01:18:00 - 01:21:00)

Trivia: In the original ending Creasy is taken to "The Voice" for search and interrogation. After some interesting dialogue, a watch among Creasy's personal effects begins to beep and there is a huge explosion. Sharp eyed viewers will remember this ending was set up during the suppository bomb scene under the bridge where Creasy showed an unused charger, pager, watch, and detonator to the victim. The producers thought that this alternate ending screened as too improbable and closed the plot too neatly.
