Biggest Bond Bloopers
With Quantum of Solace just around the corner, I thought now's the perfect time to highlight the biggest Bond bloopers of all time (and across all 21 official movies there are over 1,000 mistakes!). Check out the pictures below, and click the titles of each movie if you want to see more.
Dr. No
Bond sits down by a table, puts some cards down, and pulls his gun out. He's wearing a tie, but when we see a closeup of him screwing on the silencer, his tie disappears.
From Russia With Love
When Bond is driving the white truck and is being bombed with grenades from the helicopter the truck gets smoke blackened, but when he arrives at the speedboat all the smoke marks have gone.
Goldfinger
When Oddjob drives away from the golf course, Goldfinger is not in the back of the car for some reason, even though they show him in the car earlier.
Thunderball
When James Bond is fighting underwater with an opponent, the opponent rips off James' diving mask (which is blue). Then James rips another mask off another opponent who is lying dead on the ocean floor. This dead opponent's mask is black. James puts on the black mask and then he turns around and the mask is blue again.
You Only Live Twice
When Aki drives James to see Tiger and when she collects him from Osato Chemicals, her car changes from left hand to right hand drive as the camera follows them along.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
After Bond saved Tracy from drowning (at the start of the movie), he is fighting with the two men of Blofeld. In the first shot they're standing about 5 feet from the waterline (on the beach), in the next shot they're waist deep in the ocean.
Diamonds are Forever
The famous car chase ends with Bond's car tipping up on its right wheels to fit through a pedestrian path. However, when it emerges the other side, it's tipped on its left wheels.
Live and Let Die
Watch the way the bloke at the beginning is holding the snake. Every time the camera shows him from behind he has one hand by its head, yet each time the angle changes to the front his hand is halfway down the snake's body.
Man with the Golden Gun, The
When Bond tries to get the golden bullet from the belly dancer named Saheeda, some angry gangsters enter her dressing room. As they start destroying the place, you can see the crew in the mirror on the dressing table very clearly after one of the bad guys is knocked into it, nudging it out of position.
Spy Who Loved Me, The
In the scene where Stromberg is thanking Dr Bechman and Professor Marcovitz he he has a towel in his hand. When the camera changes to another angle that shows the back of his chair his hands are totally empty and resting on an arm of the chair. Then it changes back to the original camera angle and he now has a towel in his hands again.
Moonraker
In the scene where Drax's assistant, Corine Dufor, is being pursued to her death by his doberman dogs, she starts off with bare legs and high heels, but a couple of seconds later she's now wearing trainers and blue socks.
For Your Eyes Only
When Melina's car is hit by the machine gun, we see a close-up of the back end of the car, including the 2CV6 sign. Later in the car chase there suddenly is a Spanish national sticker (E) to the left of the 2CV6 sign.
Octopussy
When Bond takes off in the plane we see - in one shot from Bond's view - the Cubans approaching.The background is a flat (English) countryside. In the next clip we see a close-up of one of the Cubans. Behind him are quite large hills/mountains.
View to a Kill, A
After Bond gets down from the Eiffel Tower to chase May Day he steals a car. While Bond is driving down the stairs you can clearly see a Red sticker or decal on the right side of the car. After the car is cut in half it is not there.
Living Daylights, The
The wheel that is shot off of Bonds car during the frozen lake chase scene is back on the car seconds later as Bond is jumping over the Russian/Czech soldiers.
Licence to Kill
After Bond received a lighter from Felix and Della, he uses it and the flame is big. In the beginning and the end, you can see a tube is connected to the lighter and the tube goes into his suit.
Goldeneye
When Bond jumps off the dam, they do a shot following him along his descent down the ledge of the wall. They catch a shot of the ledge before panning down, in which you can see the film crew watching on top, together with a van or two, none of which were on the dam before.
Tomorrow Never Dies
When James has just jumped out of the plane, the air tanks on his back are widely separated. As soon as he hits the water they're suddenly right next to each other.
World is Not Enough, The
When James is chasing the other boat in the beginning, he fires the top torpedo first. Then when they show him fire the second torpedo, the bottom hole is empty, and he fires the one on top again...
Die Another Day
When Jinx and Bond sneak onto Grave's plane, Jinx can be seen with a nickel plated pistol (this is also evident throughout the entire film). Yet when Jinx is in the cockpit and Frost tells her to hand over the gun, it's now no longer nickel plated but standard gun metal black.
Casino Royale
Bond follows the girl through the streets of Venice. The camera follows him with a track-shot. Bond turns left, going into some kind of alley, and the dolly keeps going. The dolly, camera and crew are reflected in a window for a second.

CSI is the new Baywatch
Not in terms of the scantily-clad women running, but the slow-motion part definitely. The guiltiest variant is CSI Miami - all the CSIs make good (ahem...over...ahem) use of the montage, but CSI Miami especially - a good few minutes of each show is dedicated to covering something in slow motion or for far too long which really doesn't warrant it. Not sure whether it's writers looking to fill some time or because the audience is clamouring for more dialogue- and plot-less screen time, but either way it's irritating.
However, Horatio sticking his sunglasses on while delivering a fairly cheesy pun is a hallmark of the series and should be left intact.

West Wing vs. reality
I'm not going to get all political here (being both no doubt less well-informed than many others, plus being a Brit, so having no real stake in the upcoming US election!), but I've not written anything here for a bit, and this just occurred to me. Plus it's TV-show related, so vaguely relevant to this site. Comparisons have been drawn before to the West Wing's 7th season (with a relatively out-of-nowhere Democratic senator going up against a slightly more liberal-than-some Republican), so I won't reiterate them.
However, now the race has another similarity. In the West Wing, the race is very close until a near-meltdown at a nuclear plant. Vinick, the Republican, had been very vocal about nuclear power, and his perceived ties to this potential disaster end up having a negative effect on him in the election, resulting in a narrow defeat.
I've read a few reports today claiming that John McCain suspending his campaign to help hammer out a bail-out package connected him rather too closely to it. If it had passed it might have been a major coup, but it didn't, so now he may suffer the associated fallout as a result. Not exactly the same thing as the West Wing, obviously, but a definite similarity. Although this is, y'know, reality, so has somewhat more importance. Here ends the closest thing to political commentary this site is ever really likely to get - just found it faintly interesting.

5 blatant Back to the Future mistakes
I've realised I'm woefully inadequate at using this blog for movie news, etc., not least because there are loads of other places that do that, so instead I'm stick to this site's strengths, namely picking movies apart as only a true fan can. I've been asked in the past what the appeal is of mistake spotting, and while there are loads of different potential reasons, for me it's all about the relatively minor but obvious things - the stuff which most people wouldn't notice first time around, but once they're aware of it they'll never be able to ignore it again. Maybe I'm just evil like that. Anyway, here are a few things from Back to the Future you might never have noticed before:
Vanishing hairdryer
Probably the most obvious one, this - during Marty's "Darth Vader" appearance to his dad, he's got a hairdryer tucked into his waistband in some shots, but it vanishes in others. The reason for this is that this scene was meant to be longer, including a part where he removed it, but that part got cut out, meaning it just leaves a big ol' continuity problem.
Disappearing speaker
Also very obvious, but only once you look for it - when Marty's first wandering around town, he sees a car drive past with speakers on the roof, campaigning for someone. All well and good, but in the following shot where it moves past him, one of the speakers has suddenly vanished, and the poster on the roof's turned itself around 90 degrees.
The self-emptying sweet jar
Simple but blatant, this one - near the start there are some sweets in a jar in Marty's house, full mostly to the top. Biff goes over to take some, and the jar's suddenly half full.
Dials all over the place
This one was surely unavoidable, and also requires quick eyes - it's during Marty's chase around the car park with the terrorists. In various shots we see his speedo as he gets faster or slower, but look at the numbers on the odometer and trip counter, rather than the speed - they jump around all over the place despite the chase only lasting a couple of minutes. The needle on the speedo changes to, from having an angled bottom to a flat one - clearly a completely different car's instrumentation!
The Doc impersonator
Last, and probably least, but also the silliest - right at the end, when Doc crashes into the bins, take a close look at who's driving. It's not Doc, but a fatter stunt driver wearing a really bad white wig.
And finally...
As a final bonus for you to check out yourselves, take a look at the DVD when Einstein's in the time machine and Doc starts it reversing. Doesn't really work caught as a picture, but if you watch it in motion it's easy to see that it's just a stunt driver in a dog suit - you can even see his hands turning the steering wheel...

Site design changes
Nothing major, but I've realised of late that the navigation bar on the left is getting more and more cluttered (the blogging version here's even worse) - while it's a handy way to access all the different bits of the site, there are now so many links that it's too overloaded. As such, coupled with a bit of javascript experimentation, I've come up with the layout linked below:
All being well, the majority of people will see a list of links under "submit something" - rolling over them will result in a brief yellow glow, and clicking them will unfold all the regular links for that section which are currently on the navigation bar. If you've not got javascript enabled then it'll just look like the existing setup, so even if you're a non-javascript user you won't be missing out on anything except some design flourishes. If things look weird or don't work properly, please let me know, including what browser you're using.
My thinking is that this will make it easier for people to find the links they want without having to scan a load of other links, while also providing access to all areas of the site if people just fancy a browse. It's also entirely search-engine friendly, if anyone cares. Please take a look and let me know your thoughts, on this specific change or on the look/feel of the site generally.
There's also a link on that page called "log in pop-up window" - that's just a random idea to replace the current login screen for members. More an experiment than a major change, but figured I'd run it past people too. For any members reading this I'll seek advice in the forum too, but I've been obsessing over so many random bits and pieces of late I keep forgetting to pop in, and at the time of writing I'm too knackered to give enough attention to the various threads which probably need it! I've become properly nocturnal recently, even moreso than my usual weird hours, and I've got to get back to a vaguely normal sleeping pattern! And yes, bed at 4am counts as normal for me...
