It cost over 1 million dollars to reanimate Shrek with a Scottish accent.

The name for Shrek comes from the German word "Schreck", which means a fright or a scare.

During the wrestling ring scene, Shrek uses several wrestling moves that are performed by real professional wrestlers. Examples include: a clothesline, a dropkick, a "flying crossbody," and the very dangerous "tombstone piledriver."

Mike Myers actually read opposite his wife Robin when recording his lines for the climactic love scene at the end of the movie.

Shrek tells Fiona how short Farquad is, even though in the film he only saw him when he was high up on the balcony. Shrek knows how short Lord Farquad is because there is a deleted scene where Shrek and Farquad make a deal about the swamp. While this isn't in the film, it proves there are other times Shrek could have met Farquad.

When Shrek opens his door and sees all the fairy tale creatures in his swamp, look in the lower right hand corner of the screen and you'll see Pinnochio picking a fight with one of the dwarfs.
