Terms and conditions of membership - updated 21st February 2009
Important: Your initial password is the subscription number you receive in a confirmation e-mail from Paypal upon completing payment. Once you are logged in, you can change it via the members' homepage, linked at the top left of the site. You should receive the e-mail very soon after subscribing - if you do not, then your details should still have been entered into the database, so by entering your e-mail address in the "lost password" box on the login page, your subscription number will be sent to you. It will also be listed in your Paypal account. If this does not work for any reason, you MUST then contact bookmistakes.com as soon as possible for your login details, as your membership will be active immediately. Whether you change your password to something different or not, it is VITAL that you keep a record of your subscriber number.
Members are expected to regularly check the forum and the members' homepage (linked at the top left of the site when logged in) for important announcements.
The membership fee is $10 a year, charged through Paypal. By maintaining an active subscription members give permission to be billed automatically - if they do not wish to be, they must cancel their subscription from within their Paypal account. bookmistakes.com is not responsible for any extra costs which may be charged by credit card companies. If the fee changes at any time, all members will be given good notice to decide whether they want to continue their membership. If they decide not to continue, their current subscription will still be valid for the remainder of its term.
Members can cancel their subscription at any time via Paypal. Refunds will only be issued if membership is cancelled and a refund is requested within 14 days of payment. If a member accidentally signs up twice, both subscriptions and any payments will be clearly listed within their Paypal account, but bookmistakes.com will only be aware of one active subscription, therefore it is the member's responsibility to alert bookmistakes.com to any accidental extra payments, which will of course be refunded.
If an account has been cancelled, and the full term of membership is up, members can sign up again using the standard sign-up form at any time. They must then contact bookmistakes.com with both their old and new subscriber ID numbers to complete the reactivation of their account.
Membership of bookmistakes.com guarantees that your contributions will be seen before those made by non-members, that all adverts will be removed from the site once you are logged in, that your chosen username will be shown after entries you have added or corrected, and that you will have access to the forum. No other guarantees are given to members. bookmistakes.com reserves the right to change these terms and conditions at any time. A link to these terms will always be available from the members' homepage, with a clear notice as to when they were last updated. If a member has concerns regarding any change in terms they are welcome to contact bookmistakes.com for an explanation of how they may be affected.
Being a member is not an absolute guarantee that everything you submit will be posted. However, members' submissions will all be read, and only dismissed if there is a good reason. If a member's entry is not posted, they can see its status on the member homepage, and are welcome to add a comment within two weeks to clarify it. After this time members are welcome to resubmit their contribution. Discussions will only be entered into within two weeks of the submission. If a member's existing entry is corrected by another visitor, it will be moved to the misconception section, as with any other entry. Members' corrections are not subject to the same criteria as submissions, and may be discarded without a given reason. bookmistakes.com's decision is final.
As part of the signup process, minimal personal information will be recorded in the bookmistakes.com database. This will be used solely for site-related purposes (such as if members need to be informed of anything affecting them, or alerting you to new site features), and will never be passed on to any third party. The bookmistakes.com membership system is entirely separate to the Paypal payment system - users should under no circumstances use the same password for both.
You can opt out of receiving non-urgent emails at any time using the link on the members' homepage, but you may still occasionally receive emails to you individually relating to submissions you make.
Members will gain access to the bookmistakes.com forum, which must be signed up for separately, but is a fully integrated part of bookmistakes.com. As with membership, no personal information submitted will be shared with any third party. No illegal or immoral activity may be conducted within the forum. bookmistakes.com is not responsible for any content on the forum, but will gladly remove any unauthorised or other questionable content.
Entries must be submitted using the official contribution form. E-mailed contributions will not be accepted. If you have any problems submitting, please contact me.
As the site is only run by one person, submissions may on rare occasions be delayed due to absence. If this is the case it will be clearly stated on the members' homepage, together with relevant dates, and the submissions process may be disabled for that time. Any pending submissions will most likely be dealt with before any absence, but if not they will still be held on record.
Submissions must be made in English. People from any country are welcome to become members, but if you normally access the site through a translation system you must be aware that the members' benefits will not function correctly, as translation websites are not compatible with the code used to remove adverts and prioritise members' submissions.
The e-mail/password combination used to log into the site must never be shared with anyone else. Systems are in place to detect fraud, and if it is determined that a member has been sharing their details, their subscription will be cancelled, they will forfeit any payments they have made, and will lose access to the member section with immediate effect.
The extra information members gain access to, including, but not limited to, timecodes and screenshots, must not be used for commercial gain without crediting bookmistakes.com as the source of that information. This does not mean bookmistakes.com makes any claim upon the copyright of images, simply that bookmistakes.com should be prominently credited as a primary research location.
Usernames must not be offensive. If an inappropriate username is chosen, the member will be contacted and asked to choose another name. No offensive content may be posted to the site, or any content which breaks, or promotes the breaking of any laws.
bookmistakes.com reserves the right to cancel the membership of anyone consistently abusing the terms and conditions or the forum. bookmistakes.com's decision is final, however any membership cancelled will be refunded on a pro rata basis if it has longer than a month left to run.
If you have any questions about these terms and conditions, please contact me, and I will be happy to answer any concerns you may have.
