Quotes

Mrs Doyle: There's always time for a nice cup of tea. Sure, didn't the Lord himself pause for a nice cup of tea before giving himself up for the world.

Father Ted: No, he didn't, Mrs Doyle!

Mrs Doyle: Well, whatever the equivalent they had for tea in those days, cake or something. And speaking of cake, I have cake!

[Holds up a cupcake]

Father Ted: No thanks, Mrs Doyle.

Mrs Doyle: Are you sure, Father? There's cocaine in it!

Father Ted: WHAT?

Mrs Doyle: Oh, no, not cocaine. God, what am I on about. No, what d'you call them. Raisins.

Mistakes

At the end when Ted flushes the toilet and kills the priest, we see an outside view of the priest and if you look at the bottom of his robes you can see a black square thing hanging down from the inside which must have been squirting the water out of his robes. Also to prove this, you are not able to see any water coming from the drain in the ground, which does not make any sense. See more...

Dermot Morgan (Ted) died on Feb 28 1998, only one day after filming the final episode. See more...

Father Ted (1995) - 13 corrections

starring Ardal O'Hanlon, Dermot Morgan, Frank Kelly, Pauline McLynn (add more)

Comments made in brackets are corrections from other visitors. As such, any aggressive/abusive corrections (and I get quite a few) written as if they're comments I've made myself will be ignored. To submit your own corrections for mistakes, just click the edit icon under an entry, then choose "correct entry". Some entries have "duplicated entry" after them - these are entries which were already listed on the main page, but were submitted again. I occasionally leave these online for a while, just in case they were moved in error, so don't worry about pointing them out to me.

Across whole show

Entry In reference to the scene where a soldier opens fire and no shell casings are seen, Father Ted is set in Eire. The rir would not patrol south of the border, let alone on an island. Any link to the north is irrelevant. [Very true - and Father Ted is in fact calling from the parochial house on Craggy Island. However, at no stage are we told where the scene with the soldiers is set. Obviously the priests Ted calls are visiting Northern Ireland when they encounter the Army patrol and the gun runners.]
Entry How were Ted and Dougal able to understand Father Hernandez during the game of Cluedo, given that they couldn't speak Spanish? I know it was being translated at the time. Just puzzling. [Watch the scene again. He says nothing to them that requires a response, and all they do is nod and smile when he speaks.]

Grant Unto Him Eternal Rest (series 1)

Entry When Father Jack is in the coffin on the table during the scene where all the other priests are there, you get a closeup of Jack as someone leans over him. Watch carefully and you'll see that he is breathing. [Jack was still alive at this point (he comes out of his detergent-induced coma at the end of the episode) so of course he was still breathing.]

Flight into Terror (series 2)

Entry During this episode the aircraft the priests are travelling on changes from a four engined BAE 146 to a twin engined Boeing 737 and back again. [No, it doesn't. You see a BAE146 on the ground in an establishing shot, telling the audience that we are in an airport, then we see aeroplanes taking off, then we go to the interior of an airliner. There is no indication that the priests and nuns got onto the BAE146.]

The Plague (series 2)

Entry Bishop Brennan says that Jack was seen by his friend to be wearing just a pair of socks and a hat. When this scene was shown earlier, Jack was not wearing a hat. [Jack had apparently been out sleepwalking for quite a few nights. We don't know that the people who saw him at the start are the same friends of Bishop Brennan, or even that he's talking about the same night.]

A Song for Europe (series 2)

Entry The host of Eurosong instantly manages to tidy himself up before going on stage, shaved and all. Moments prior to that, he looks like he spent the night in a ditch. [This is actually the joke. You can hardly accuse Father Ted of being a show based entirely in reality.]
Entry I don't want to sound picky, but in the lyrics of "My Lovely Horse," fetlocks cannot actually blow in the wind. They're part of the horse's leg. Wonderful song, though. [Fetlock: 1 a: a projection bearing a tuft of hair on the back of the leg above the hoof of a horse or similar animal. b: the tuft of hair itself 2: the joint of the limb at the fetlock. Definition 1b would blow in the wind. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fetlock.]

The Old Grey Whistle Theft (series 2)

Entry If we go for the idea that there is one Parochial House on each island, Fr Frost's must be on a different island but we don't hear of where it is. (and wouldn't it take Dougal and Damo a while to get there?) [There are at least four parochial houses on Craggy Island, perhaps more. Father Ted's, Father Frost's, Fr Billy O'Dwyer's (visited in Think Fast, Father Ted) and Fr MacDuff's, (visited in Escape From Victory). We know next to nothing about Craggy Island, including its population and the number of priests serving the community.]
Entry In the scene where the soldier machine-guns the fleeing priest, no actual spent cases are seen ejecting from the weapon. [The Army routinely uses caseless ammunition in Northern Ireland.]

Think Fast, Father Ted (series 2)

Entry At the end of the episode, a tree falls through the roof, even though they don't live anywhere near a tree. [In a subsequent episode we are told that a storm 'took away the whole East side of the island'. Seems to me that the storms they get on Craggy Island wouldn't have much trouble shifting a tree a mile or two.]

Going to America (series 3)

Entry When they are playing snakes and ladders with the depressed guy, right at the end Dougal grabs the wrong piece and moves it down the board. He was supposed to do it with the depressed guy's piece, but he does it with his own, and up until then he had been playing right, so we can't put it down to his stupidity. [We really don't know how well he had been playing up until then, since this is only the first or second move we see him make. With someone as stupid as Dougal, getting confused halfway through the game and moving the wrong piece is perfectly plausible.]

Night of the Nearly Dead (series 3)

Entry In 'Night of the Nearly Dead', when Eoin's agent is talking to Ted at the end she says a lot of his behaviour is caused by his 'problem' and Ted replies 'Ah, yes, he mentioned that earlier', but Dougal was the only one who heard him talking about it. [Dougal is apocalyptically stupid. When told not to mention Bishop Brennan's son, it is the first thing he does - the same with Ted Seller's ridiculous toupee. Obviously he has told Ted about Eoin's 'problem'.]

Speed 3 (series 3)

Entry Why doesn't Ted just push all the boxes out of the way of the milk float instead of rebuilding them one-by-one? [This was obviously done just so that they could get him smashing through them in the car.] Also, why would a stack of boxes be positioned like that on a road anyway? [This isn't a plot hole and it isn't a film mistake - it's a joke, wholly in character for a surreal show that includes bizarre elements.]
