Mistake Plot hole: Ron and Harry both fly the Ford Car straight into Hogwarts Grounds. However, Dumbledore has strict spells bound onto the Castle border that prevent anything from flying over the castle walls.

Mistake Continuity: Dumbledore tells Harry at the end that Lord Voldemort is the last remaining ancestor of Salazar Slytherin. But ancestors are in the past - he means Voldemort is the last descendant of Salazar Slytherin. Not a mistake Dumbledore would have made. (Corrected in later printings.)

Mistake Continuity: Hermione says Moaning Myrtle haunts the bathroom on the first floor. However, when Harry sees the writing on the wall outside her bathroom, he is on the second floor.

Mistake Plot hole: When Harry enters Tom Riddle's memory of catching the "Heir of Slytherin," he is in the headmaster's chamber. but Tom isn't in the room yet. He enters shortly, but how can Harry see Dippet if Tom wasn't there to remember it?

Mistake Continuity: When Harry causes Goyle's Swelling Solution to explode in class, it showers the whole class. But a few moments later, only half of the class approaches Snape for the antidote. Submitted by Cubs Fan

Mistake Continuity: The Hogwarts' equipment list mentions the Lockhart book "Wanderings With a Werewolf," but later, Lockhart refers to the book as "Weekend With a Werewolf". (May be corrected in later editions of the book).

Mistake Continuity: After Harry, Ron, Fred, and George arrive at the Burrow after getting Harry, Mrs. Weasley shouts at Fred first. "You will not," snapped Mrs. Weasley. Then she says "And you two," glaring at Ron and Fred. It should say George, for she has already yelled at Fred.

Mistake Continuity: At Nick's 500th deathday it says that he died in 1492. Therefore, the book takes place in 1992, and since Harry is currently 12 years old, he was born in 1980. Yet in the first book, Harry mentions that his 11th birthday was July 31st, on a Tuesday. That date was on a Wednesday in 1991, when he's supposed to have been born.

Mistake Continuity: In the back of the paperback edition, there is a preview of book three, where it says Harry blows up his Aunt Petunia. It should say his Aunt Marge.
