When Forrest first comes to Vietnam and enters the camp, one version has Aretha Franklin's "Respect" playing in the background. Other versions have "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch" by The Temptations. [There aren't multiple versions of this scene - these two songs are played consecutively in the film. When Forrest and Bubba's plane arrives in Vietnam, "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch" can be heard in the background. Then when they're walking toward camp and Lt. Dan approaches them, "Respect" starts playing.]
In the scene where Forrest "rescues" Jenny from the "assault" by the college student in the car, 1) Jenny gets out of the car too quickly considering her earlier, rather peculiar position, 2) when she gets through the right door she doesn't seem to open it - she just appears on the side of the car, 3) which would explain that the door doesn't get closed when the boy drives off in a huff. [(1) Jenny wasn't in an awkward position; her date was; (2) huh?; (3) so what? older cars had heavy doors; it closed as he drove off.]

When Mrs. Gump is reading to Forrest towards the beginning, she turns the page when she's interrupted by Forrests question. Then when she continues, she flips the page again to start where she left off. [She was just startled and disturbed by his question and absentmindedly turned another page. Not a mistake.]

When little Forrest runs away from the bullies he loses the braces on his right leg twice. [It's a slow-motion scene and it's purposely duplicated to get the desired effect that this is a monumental moment for Forrest.]

After Forrest gets discharged from the Army he comes walking up to his house and greets his momma with only his duffle bag in his hand. His momma tells him, 'We've had all sorts of visitors', and shows him a ping pong paddle she wants him to hold, saying, 'Maybe you'll get used to it'. Magically, he presents his own, old paddle, and says, "Momma I only like my own paddle", but he never opens his duffle bag to get the paddle out. It's as if the paddle appears from nowhere. [Look closely when he is walking into the house, you can see it's in his back pocket. That's he why he is able to produce it for her so quickly.]

Shouldn't Forrest be an officer? He graduated college then went into the army: shouldn't he be an officer then, not an enlisted person? [College doesn't guarantee you a commission into the Army, there are many factors including tests and interviews that could have easily disqualified him, as well as the fact he could have simply declined the position.]

When Forrest runs into town after losing his braces he speeds by a cafe in the foreground where one of the patrons, an old guy with a hat, calls him a running fool. Some 20 years he takes off for his three-year run across America some 20 years later, and when he comes by the cafe we see the same old guy, who obviously hasn't aged in between. [I really think that having the same guy is a statement on the lack of change in Gump's hometown in comparison with the rest of America. (I hardly think that the director is slapping his forehead thinking "oops!" over this one.).]
When Forrest starts to play ping-pong, he says how he plays all the time. In one shot, the camera is laying on the table, looking up at him. Just before the shot changes to the next, you can hear the "clunk" of the ball hitting the camera. I saw this in the DVD and on TV. You know it is the camera because it is loud and sudden, not soft, like what you would hear when it hits a ping-pong paddle. [I'm not sure what you heard, but it could not have been the ball hitting the camera, because in the making of the film documentary, it is shown that the ping-pong ball was computer generated for every scene, so no real ball ever existed.]

In the scene where Forrest and Lt. Dan are on the shrimp boat and Forrest gets the call that "his momma is sick", he immediately jumps overboard and assumingly swims to shore to start running home without changing clothes. But in the next shot he is shown running down the road wearing a different shirt and pants than before, and carrying his suitcase, which should still be on his boat since he lived on it. [It's not just possible, but probable that someone either gave Forrest his clothes and suitcase, or Forrest went back for them. His immediate reaction was likely not his ONLY reaction.]
Towards the end of the film when Forrest visits Jenny's grave and talks to her he says that he has a letter written to her by their son, young Forrest. He then says that he can't read it, so he'll just lay it down on her grave. Why can't he read it? Jenny taught him how to read when they were children, and he graduated from college. What college gives a diploma to someone who can't read? [It is not that he is unable to read. He was told not to read it by little Forest as it is personal between him and his mum.]

In a sequence set around 1970, someone is shown reading a copy of USA Today. The newspaper wasn't created until 1983. [Just checked the movie and cannot find this scene anywhere. Without a time code, this entry is too vague.]
At the end, Jenny looks way too healthy for someone a few days before dying of AIDS. [It is not stated definitively that Jenny has AIDS; she says it is "some sort of virus" possibly alluding to the HIV viral infection. Also, she could have died of heart failure secondary to the viral disease, or any number of other complications (drug toxicity, internal hemorrhage, massive stroke) that come on suddenly and without prior visible symptoms. Diseases are very unpredictable, and a person can be very near death and look just fine.]
In the scene when Forest runs away and the boys are chasing him by car we can see in one shot that the car is very close to Forrest and in the next the car is much farther from Forrest. This is a direct cut, with no time for the car to drop back. [This is done deliberately to imply that Forrest is just that fast. He also made a jump over a fence right afterward, that was higher than a normal man could do. These are comedic (for lack of a better description) elements, not mistakes.]
In the scene where Lt.Dan and Gump are in the apartment after New Years, there is a shot of Lt.Dan with the hooker on his lap where you can see his legs. [Incorrect. The end of his pants are tied in bunches, and you see that hanging down. A few inches below that you can see the bedspread on the other side, through where his legs should have been.]
When Forrest is recalling his time playing ping-pong in the US Army, he is playing while other soldiers are watching him instead of the moon landing on July 20, 1969. Then he says "A few years later he went to China.". Then he meets Lt. Dan in NYC at Christmas 1971, as we see New Year's Eve for 1972 happening. Then a little while later he and Lt. Dan are the only shrimp boat to survive Hurricane Camille which hit the gulf coast in August 1969. The time doesn't add up to the sequence of events - it jumps from 1969 (Moon Walk) to 1972 back to 1969. [They say Carmen not Camille (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Carmen). Carmen was in August 1974 so the timeline is fine - 1969 to 1972 to 1974.]

It makes no sense that Lt. Dan was shocked about Forrest receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor. First off, as Forrest's commanding officer in the field, Lt. Dan would have had to recommend him for the medal. Also, as one of the people who Forrest rescued from the battlefield, Lt. Dan would certainly have been interviewed to verify Forrest's heroic actions. [Lt. Dan was not as shocked as he was angry. He was left a paraplegic while an "imbecile" like Forrest was spared. He was using this opportunity to vent his frustration; surely he knew Forrest was going to receive the medal.]
Jenny comes to visit Forrest as he is mowing his yard on the riding lawn mower. The first shot shows Forrest still mowing the edge of the long grass but the shot that shows him walking towards Jenny, the lawnmower is off of the line he was mowing and is away from the long grass - if you look, the grass in front of the lawn mower is already cut. [He probably was going over the same place again, after he'd already mowed it. It's definitely something Forrest would do.]
In the scene where a load of garbage is dumped onto the deck of the shrimp boat, a Mello Yello can is among the garbage. The graphic design on the can is the design from the year "Forrest Gump" was made, not from the year in which that scene is supposedly set. [If you look closely, that is a Mountain Dew can, which has the graphic that it did in the year the scene is set.]
When Forrest and Bubba are on the helicopter in Vietnam, Bubba's lip isn't swollen. [Bubba's lip isn't swollen to begin with; he just had a prominent lower lip. And, this is after Lt. Dan told him to "tuck that lip in".]
In the scene where Forrest is carrying Bubba out of the jungle away from the airstrike, look carefully when Forrest starts down the trail into the open and the napalm starts hitting the ground. Several rounds land very close to him, and one even lands in a bush that he has just passed. In actuality Forrest and Bubba would have been crispy to the bone before they realised what hit them. [The movie is a memory play so Forrest is telling someone all of this. The explosions may have sounded closer than they actually were. This would then be reflected in his recap of the story.]
